Eyesight is something we take for granted until we start losing it. Will we all suffer from eyesight decline or can we keep our 20/20 vision well into our twilight years? Research suggests that nutrition and movement play key roles in eye health...

Exercises:
  • The topic of whether exercises can improve sight is riddled with inconsistencies. Some people believe exercises can prevent anyone from needing corrective lenses while others say 'that's hogwash.'
  • But if you want to believe, like I do, the attached link offers some of the exercises touted to keep eyes functioning well.
    • Bates Method
Nutrition and body systems - potential vision issue causes and food suggestions:
  • Liver congestion / problems can cause issues with vision. Check with your doctor to determine whether you liver might be at the root of your declining eyesight
  • Food and its role (Source: Healing with Whole Foods):
    • Parsley – strengthens optic nerve
    • Beef liver – Strengthens the liver; commonly used in treatment of eye conditions such as blurred vision, night blindness, glaucoma, and optic nerve atrophy (in Chinese medicine, the eyes are related to the functioning of the liver). While real food is best, if you cannot take the taste of liver, try liver supplements.
    • Pork liver – Used in the treatment of weak vision, night blindness
    • Vitamin A (RDA = 4,000-5,000 I.U.)
    • Adult Eye Benefits of Omega-3 Fatty Acids - Several studies suggest omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish oil) may help protect adult eyes from macular degeneration and dryness. Essential fatty acids also may help proper drainage of intraocular fluid from the eye, decreasing the risk of high eye pressure and glaucoma. In a large European study published in 2008, participants who ate oily fish (an excellent source of DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids) at least once per week had half the risk of developing neovascular ("wet") macular degeneration, compared with those who ate fish less than once per week.  (Source = All About Vision)
Perhaps you have experience with improving eyesight. If so, we'd love to hear what worked for you. Please comment below.
